Video Reviews

1. Explain why you selected each of the FOUR videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I selected these four following videos; Dada and Surrealism, Expressionism, Matisse and Picasso, and the Impact of Cubism.  I selected each of these specifics concepts because I wanted to learn more about each of them.  I have never really been familiar with Dada & Surrealism or the Impact of Cubism and I thought it would be interesting to learn more about each of them.  One of my favorite artists is Picasso so I thought it would be intriguing to learn more about him and his background.

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

Dada and Surrealism- this video discussed Dada’s transition to surrealism in Europe.  It showed detailed illustrations from various artists that represented the different transitions.

Expressionism- the concepts that were discussed in this video pertained to expressionism and also and fauvism.  One of expressionism main concepts pertained to how the artists performed this style with use of vibrant colors and expressed themselves emotionally.

Matisse and Picasso-this was once of my favorite videos.  The concept discussed in this video was both of these artists and the different types of work that they have created.  Also the video discussed how the two correlated together.

Impact of Cubism- this video discussed the different types of works artists creating during these time and have what they considered to be "nontradional" values were potrayed in their work.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

The reading relate to the text by expanding on the different concepts that we had reviewed in more depth.  Sometimes in the videos they even discuss some of the same different types of artwork that we have discussed in the book already.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

Each of the films I choose because they were the ones that I found most interest in the topics.  I was introduced to new forms of artwork and detailed explanations about where they derived from.  In the book we are only able to learn so much about each artist and topic but after reviewing the videos it truly does give you a more informative explanation about what each is about.
